Children
Children under 16 are free at our discretion and accompanied by a responsible adult. (NOTE: This doesn't mean a mate aged 17!)
Facilities
The festival has a car park, camping facilities for weekend ticket holders, freshwater points througout the site and toilet blocks with hot and cold running water. Cars are not allowed onto the camping area owing to limited space but we run a land rover service for those wanting assistance to and from the car park. Sorry we can't accommodate caravans (see sites below).
To reduce our carbon footprint the car park has a nominal parking fee of £1 and this is used to run our festival bus service, The Stainsby Flyer. This runs to and from collection points in Chesterfield, including the railway station, before and after each session. More details closer to the festival time, here on this site.
There are at least three food vendors on site offering hot and cold meals at all times of the day and until late at night. One of these always offers vegetarian choices. There are often hot and cold drinks or ice cream vendors.
The Hat Block is a real ale bar, featuring a special Stainsby Festival brew as well as at least 20 other real ales, all sourced locally! - thanks to sponsorship by the Leadmill Brewery, a leading Derbyshire microbrewery. There'll also be the usual lagers, wines, spirits and soft drinks for those who can't stand the stuff. For the really strong among you there'll be a range of traditional ciders (but be warned - it's strong shtufff!). The Hat Block is open throughout the festival until midnight Friday and Saturday and until 11pm on Sunday.
Newspapers are on sale each day at the Information Office along with fresh milk.
Dogs are welcome at Stainsby by following three simple rules:
- They must be on a lead at all times
- They are not allowed in the main marquee
- You have to scoop the poop
There are no shops within easy walking distance of the village. There are local hotels and caravan sites within easy reach.
Stainsby Flyer Rides Again
The Stainsby Flyer will leave Chesterfield from the railway station and call at the Ibis Hotel on its way to the festival before every concert. 6pm every evening and noon Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Obviously we've also arranged that it'll go back to Chesterfield after every concert (doh!).
Local Hotels
Twin Oaks Hotel at J29. Characterful hotel converted from a row of miners cottages that used to serve Ramcroft Colliery. Recently refurbished complete with own fitness suite. Full restaurant service. Distance to festival 1 1/2 miles.
Appleby Guest House. A very attractive family run guesthouse with a laid-back feel. We've often put artists up here. Even has its own swimming pool. Distance to festival 2 miles.
Whitton Lodge. A luxury B & B that only opened last year with pool, sauna, gym and games room. They even go in for beauty treatments if the rigours of a sixties style festival get too much! We've put artists in here too. Distance to festival 2 miles.
Stainsby Mill Farm Newly opened B&B barn conversions on a working farm. Perfectly situated just under the motorway beyond Stainsby Mill (Mill Farm, easy huh?). Absolutely easy walking distance of the festival.
Caravans
Shardaroba Caravan Park. Open countryside surrounds this site and the newly created Silverhill Country Park opposite. Recommended by caravanners off our own committee who've stayed there. Distance to festival 3 miles.
Performers looking for Gigs
The volume of emails asking for gigs is far too large for us to respond to, so if you have sent one, don't expect an answer, there aren't enough hours in the day. We'll only reply if there's the chance of a gig.
